PHD/Fellowshippers Class History Version 2
Many years ago, approximately 1966 a group at First Methodist coalesced. The original group consisted of the Garbos, Hadens, Muerys, Wallaces, and Mayos. Over the years there have been so many folks who were here briefly and left us with many memories. Others came and stayed and that is you!
We have a history rife with social causes. We began a tutoring program on Wednesday nights and ran a bus to pick up the children. We participated in the Fisherman’s Club and literally went out and knocked on newcomer’s doors to invite them to our church and S.S. class. Can you believe anyone letting us in today! Of course, Haden had trouble even then. We began a “Mother’s Morning Out” on Fridays. This was a bit self serving but we did let others use it! We started an “invite a serviceman to church and Sunday lunch”. This program was short lived when two of the members were stopped at the bus station by police as they were “stalking” guys getting off the bus from Fort Polk. We were instrumental in “Adopt an Orphan”. I can’t remember the actual name. We got a list of all the children at the Ruston Children’s Home and church members “adopted” a child and wrote to them, remembered them at Christmas and on their birthdays. These are a few of the pieces of the “PHD/Fellowshippers” heritage. This is what I remember. Diana Vodrey.
